8 Fun Self-Care Tips for Stressed Online Entrepreneurs + A BONUS Tip!

If you're reading this blog post, you're likely among the many online business owners who feel like pulling out their hair is the only rational response to the ironic chaos the "work from home" lifestyle often brings.

I know that is so dramatic...but let's be real: as exciting and rewarding as running an online business is, it comes with its own set of challenges, especially when maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Entrepreneurs often find themselves juggling multiple roles, wearing multiple wigs*—in both personal and business matters*!

You're probably managing everything from toddler tantrums to an avalanche of unread emails. And let's not forget the constant marketing push and those oh-so-dull admin tasks. Exhausting, right?

All these demands can zap your energy and make self-care a back-burner priority when really, your wellness is your business’s MVP!

You've gotta keep your energy, focus, and sanity intact. Try weaving a few new tips into your daily groove and watch the magic happen!

So, how do you win at the home-based business game and keep your sanity? Let’s dive into some ways to nurture yourself and your business at the same time!

Practice Mindfulness & Disconnect

A consistent morning routine can set the tone for the entire day.

  • Start with a glass of water (coffee comes afterwards of course but hydration is key!)—to hydrate and wake up your body.

  • Try a short meditation session to clear your mind and set intentions. This practice can improve focus and reduce stress.

  • At the end of the day, it's crucial to disconnect. Establish an evening ritual to signal the end of work. This could be reading a book or taking a warm bath.

  • Limit screen time before bed. The blue light from screens can disrupt sleep patterns. Instead, engage in relaxing activities.

  • Wind down with a gratitude journal. Reflecting on the day's positives can improve mental health.

Take Breaks and Go Touch Grass!

Taking breaks is vital for maintaining productivity. Step away from your desk every couple of hours. A short walk or some fresh air can work wonders.

During breaks, consider doing a few breathing exercises. These can help reset your mind and relieve tension. Even five minutes can make a big difference.

If possible, incorporate a brief exercise routine. Light stretching or a quick workout can boost your energy levels and mood.

Scheduling downtime is as important as work tasks. It helps prevent burnout and maintains a healthy work-life balance.

  • Set fixed hours to disconnect from work.

  • Plan activities that help you relax and recharge.

  • Ensure you get adequate sleep each night.

By prioritizing downtime, you can maintain energy levels and improve productivity.

Organize & Declutter Your Workspace

Having a dedicated workspace can increase productivity. Choose a spot that is free from distractions and make it your official work zone.

  1. Set up a desk or table that is comfortable and functional.

  2. Ensure good lighting to reduce eye strain.

  3. Personalize your space with items that inspire and motivate you.

By defining a workspace, you can mentally separate work from home life. Speaking of workspaces, check out the versatile Google Workspace.

Manage Distractions

Effectively managing distractions is key to staying productive. Identify common distractions and create strategies to minimize them.

  • Use noise-canceling headphones to block unwanted noise (I use these Bose headphones when working outside of the house. So comfy and well, the brand speaks for itself)

  • Set specific times for checking emails and social media.

  • Use tools like website blockers during work hours.

  • Place a time limit on how long you stay on social media (with Instagram, you can do this to send yourself notifications to wrap)

  • Keep track of your time using apps like Toggl, Google Calendar to time block your projects and tasks

Finding the right balance between work and personal activities can lead to a more focused workday.

Prioritize Tasks Effectively

Task prioritization helps efficiently manage your workload, and is a key player in overall time management. Start by listing all your tasks and categorizing them based on urgency and importance.

Use Productivity Tools

Productivity tools can streamline your workflow. They help organize tasks, set reminders, and track progress.

  1. Choose a task management app some are beginner friendly and others have a bit of a learning curve. I highly suggest choosing one that suits your needs and comfortability. As much as I love Notion, there are other options for actual task management like Trello, ClickUp, Asana orrrr....no shame in using the regular IOS Notes app (iphone users)

  2. Schedule tasks with deadlines to stay on track.

  3. Monitor progress and adjust as needed.

  4. Wanna know a secret? In addition to productivity tools like Notion, my second brain, I still use an ancient, *physical planner (*check out my favorite planner here.) I prefer to go "analog" from time to time to regenerate my spirit.

Set Realistic Goals

Setting realistic goals is vital to avoid overcommitment. Break down large goals into smaller, manageable tasks.

  • Set achievable milestones to track progress.

  • Celebrate small victories along the way.

  • Review and adjust goals regularly to stay aligned.

This approach helps manage expectations and reduces stress.

Adjust Your Strategy!

Regularly evaluate your strategies to ensure they align with your goals.

Gather your analytics for your email marketing, social media reports, sales funnels, website/blog, e-commerce store, profit and loss statements, etc.

This give you a crystal clear vision that helps identify areas for improvement.

Please don't let the term "strategies" intimidate you...they do not have to be overly complicated or technical!

Just keep track of your analytics to see what works and what doesn't, set new goals and map out the next steps.

It's Business... And It's Personal

Balancing family, work and personal time requires clear boundaries and effective communication.

  • Schedule family activities around work and be present during family time, using shared calendars for coordination.

  • Allocate time for hobbies to reduce stress and enhance creativity, like joining groups or workshops to connect with others. You can do this virtually or in person!

  • Transparently communicate your availability to family and clients by using shared calendars and setting clear boundaries to manage expectations and minimize interruptions.

Bonus Tip: Value Simplicity

As an over-thinker, I can assure you things do not have to be overcomplicated. I am a firm believer in using the K.I.S.S. method- keep it simple sugar! because it brings so much clarity and eases overthinking.

I try to apply this both in my daily and professional life.

Think of that refreshing feeling when you drown out multiple distractions.
